  10.        The Performance Co-Pilot (PCP) provides a suite of tools
  11.        that co-operate to deliver distributed, integrated
  12.        performance monitoring and performance management services
  13.        across the spectrum of performance domains, i.e. for
  14.        hardware platforms, operating systems, DBMS and
  15.        applications.
  16.  
  17.        The targeted user of the Performance Co-Pilot's services is
  18.        the performance analyst, benchmarker, engineering developer,
  19.        database administrator, capacity planner or system
  20.        administrator with an interest in overall ssssyyyysssstttteeeemmmm
  21.        performance, and a need to quickly isolate and understand
  22.        performance behavior, resource utilization, activity levels
  23.        and bottlenecks in large complex systems. The most likely
  24.        targets for this analysis are large servers, or clusters of
  25.        servers, providing DBMS, video, compute or file services to
  26.        distributed clients.

  28.        In a typical deployment, the Performance Co-Pilot would be
  29.        installed in a ccccoooolllllllleeeeccccttttoooorrrr ccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggguuuurrrraaaattttiiiioooonnnn on one or more hosts,
  30.        from which the performance information could then be
  31.        obtained, and in a mmmmoooonnnniiiittttoooorrrr ccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggguuuurrrraaaattttiiiioooonnnn on one or more
  32.        workstations, from which the performance of the collector
  33.        systems could then be monitored.

  35.        These release notes cover the first time installation of the
  36.        PCP product, as well as the upgrade for an existing PCP
  37.        installation.

  39.        Note also, that some useful ancillary PCP components are
  40.        included in the _p_c_p__g_i_f_t_s product that is distributed with
  41.        the _p_c_p product, and described in the _p_c_p__g_i_f_t_s release
  42.        notes.

  181.        The Performance Co-Pilot provides services and capabilities
  182.        that deliver the information required to execute effective
  183.        system performance management strategies.  Support from
  184.        Silicon Graphics will cover the functionality of the tools,
  185.        the application programming interfaces and the distributed
  186.        framework for collecting and shipping performance data
  187.        within the infrastructure of the Performance Co-Pilot
  188.        product.  Although the Performance Co-Pilot encourages
  189.        extensibility of the available performance metrics and
  190.        performance analysis toolkits by site-specific,
  191.        application-specific and customer-specific extensions, all
  192.        such extensions fall outside the support maintenance
  193.        program.

  196.        does not include analysis of performance information
